In 1960, Circle Y began manufacturing quality saddles and tack in the small town of Yoakum, Texas. A lot has changed in 50 years, but what hasn't is the pride, craftsmanship, and quality built into each Circle Y saddle and the commitment to make it even better tomorrow...
A great Circle Y saddle story We asked our loyal Circle Y customers to send in stories about their saddles. We received many great ones, but this one is especially inspiring. Enjoy!
My first horse was Koko’s Lady, a foundation bred Foxtrotter. For Christmas, my older brother gave me a halter with the promise to fill it come spring. My Grandpa was a world-class horseman, though you’ll not know his name as he was no famous clinician. But he was amazing. My brother took him and set out to find a suitable first horse. That was Lady-1350 pounds of bay Foxtrotter mare. She was 17 years old to my mere 12. I was mortified that my first horse was so OLD... my goodness. I had no idea how old horses lived to be. (She lived to be 36).
Well I had my first horse, first bridle, first everything but what I didn’t have was a first saddle. My family wasn’t wealthy and I had no clue how expensive saddles were. It was horrible to realize I had nothing with which to ride my new trusty steed.
Fortunately, the girl who was selling Lady saw the situation for what it was. She wanted to show horses and wanted a younger more sporty model and the old saddle wasn’t ‘show’ quality. It was most likely older than the mare. So my sister paid $50 for my very first saddle. It was a lovingly worn, very old Circle Y saddle. It wasn’t new to me, it sported no silver but it was the most fantastic present a 12 year old with her first horse could ever get! >
